The Bulgarian Register of Shipping (BRS) is an institution with deep roots in Bulgaria's maritime history, established with the mission to ensure the safety of navigation, the protection of human life at sea, and the preservation of the marine environment.
The foundations of BRS were laid in the mid-20th century, at a time when Bulgarian merchant shipping was expanding and gaining a more prominent role in international maritime transport. The creation of a national classification society was a natural step toward building independent technical expertise for the supervision and certification of vessels.
Over the years, BRS has established itself as a reliable partner to the Bulgarian maritime industry, providing classification, technical inspections, and certification in accordance with international conventions and standards. The organization has developed strong expertise in ship construction, machinery installations, navigational safety, and quality management systems.
Following the economic and political changes at the end of the 20th century, BRS underwent a process of transformation and adaptation to new market conditions. During this period, the organization began actively expanding its international presence and building partnerships with maritime administrations and companies worldwide.
Today, the Bulgarian Register of Shipping is a modern and dynamic organization offering a wide range of services, including ship classification, statutory certification on behalf of maritime administrations, plan approval, as well as inspections and audits in compliance with international standards.
With a strong focus on quality, independence, and professionalism, BRS continues to develop as a trusted partner for shipowners, operators, and maritime administrations. The organization combines long-standing experience with modern approaches and innovation to meet the challenges of the contemporary maritime industry.
